As last year, this year's course will follow the first year syllabus of the "Bridge for All" programme recommended by the EBU (English Bridge Union) and which is supported by a comprehensive text book (the Red Book) published by the EBU.
The course will be taught by Associate Members of EBTA, the English Bridge Teachers Association, which was previously known as EBUTA. Corsham Bridge Club now has a team of 3 such teachers who will share the teaching for 2016/17.
The emphasis of this programme is to have fun playing bridge, so we get people playing from the very first lesson and devote half of each lesson to supervised play.
The course will consist of 20 weekly lessons interspersed with ‘break’ weeks as necessary to take account of holidays etc. In addition to the per session charge, there will be an initial registration charge of £20 to cover the cost of the official EBU course book which will be provided to each student. All other teaching materials and student notes are included in the lesson charge.
As last year, the course programme will accommodate the wishes of the attendees to have some non-teaching sessions for pure play, or to revise and consolidate what has already been learnt, and to have fun ! In particular, the Tuesday lessons will be supplemented by ad-hoc get-togethers where the learners can practice their new shills playing with established players in a very informal and sociable environment. These supplementary sessions will usually be free of charge.
Although these lessons are intended for absolute beginners, they would also suit those who haven’t played bridge for several years but now wish to get back into the game.
Unfortunately, the lesson venue is only accessible by stairs. Anyone for whom this may pose a problem should contact us for further information.
