The course will follow the first year syllabus of the "Bridge for all" programme recommended by the EBU (English Bridge Union) and which is supported by a comprehensive text book (the Red Book) published by the EBU.
The course will be taught by Associate Members of EBTA, the English Bridge Teachers Association, which was previously known as EBUTA. Corsham Bridge Club now has a team of 3 such teachers who will share the teaching for 2018/19, as in previous years.
No previous experience is needed, although a familiarity with card games could be an advantage. Anyone who can play whist will find it really easy to convert to bridge.
The emphasis of our lessons is to have fun playing bridge, so we devote half of each lesson to supervised play.
The course will consist of up to 20 weekly lessons interspersed with ‘break’ weeks as necessary to take account of holidays etc. All teaching materials (except the Red Book) and student notes are included in the lesson charge. The cost of the book is approx. £24 in addition to cost of lessons.
As in previous years, the course programme will accommodate the wishes of the attendees to have some non-teaching sessions for pure play, or to revise and consolidate what has already been learnt, and to have fun ! In particular, the Tuesday lessons will be supplemented by ad-hoc get-togethers where the learners can practice their new skills playing with established players in a very informal and sociable environment. These supplementary sessions will usually be free of charge.

Should you learn to play bridge ?
Well, there are certainly a number of benefits – and now is a good time to learn with Corsham Bridge Club.
Following our previous successful courses, Corsham Bridge Club intends to run a new series of Beginners Lessons commencing Autumn 2018. These will follow a programme recommended and promulgated by the EBU (English Bridge Union) and will be led by EBU accredited tutors. The course will last between 16 and 20 weeks depending on the learners’ previous card playing experience and how quickly they grasp the content.
The Tuesday lessons may occasionally be supplemented by ad-hoc get-togethers where the learners can practice their new shills playing with established players in a very informal and sociable environment. These supplementary sessions will be free of charge.
Please contact us by email at [email protected] with your contact details, and we will get back to you.

It is generally well accepted that learning a new skill is good for young and old alike. Surely a good enough reason to consider learning to play bridge. Furthermore, the social aspects of joining a club, making new friends and regularly meeting together are not to be underestimated.
So why not give it a try ?
